First debate between Berg, Pomeroy turns heatedFARGO - Verbal punches were thrown left and right tonight during the first debate between Democratic incumbent Rep. Earl Pomeroy and Republican challenger Rick Berg.
The pair sparred over the major issues of the 2010 election – health care reform, the federal deficit and Social Security – during a half-hour taped debate at Prairie Public Broadcasting’s downtown Fargo studios.
The program airs at 8 p.m. Tuesday on statewide TV.
A formal debate format became obsolete as the candidates repeatedly talked over one another to address attacks being made by his opponent.
Much of the debate was split between health care reform and the federal deficit, although the conversation quickly evolved to include other topics as the candidates raised criticism about his opponent’s record.
