Western Illinois spoils NDSU homecoming with 28-16 winUnable to overcome a 21-3 deficit, North Dakota State's football team suffered a 28-16 loss to Western Illinois Saturday before a sellout homecoming crowd of 18,701 at the Fargodome.
Trailing 28-16 late in the game, the Bison drove to the Western Illinois 16 yard line on one possession and to the 3 yard line on another possession, but failed to produce a score.
Western Illinois, picked to finish eighth in the nine-team Missouri Valley Conference, improved to 2-0 in league play and 4-1 overall.
NDSU, picked to finish sixth in the league, fell to 0-2 in the league and 3-2 overall.
