Hoeven, Potter meet in final debate today

The two leading candidates in North Dakota’s U.S. Senate race meet today for their second and final planned debate before Election Day.

Republican Gov. John Hoeven and Democratic-NPL state Sen. Tracy Potter of Bismarck are scheduled to participate in a taped debate this afternoon in Prairie Public Broadcasting’s downtown Fargo studios.

The debate will air today at 7:30 p.m. statewide on Prairie Public TV and will be rebroadcast on that channel several times before Nov. 2.

Potter and Hoeven previously debated Sept. 23 in Fargo.

Although the candidates received other invitations to debate, no other events were agreed upon between the candidates.

Potter sought more debates, but Hoeven said he would not accept invitations by private media companies, so as not to favor one over another.

Libertarian Keith Hanson of West Fargo also is seeking the Senate seat and will be featured in a separate Prairie Public program later this month.
