Fargo police arrest five in drunken driving crackdownFARGO – Police announced today that they arrested five drivers for drunken driving at a sobriety checkpoint late Saturday night and early this morning on the city’s north side.
One driver also was arrested for minor in posses-sion of alcohol, while 25 drivers were flagged for further testing, two of whom were arrested for drug violations, Officer Jim VanLith said.
The checkpoint in the 1500 block of 12th Avenue North ran from 11:22 p.m. to 2:25 a.m. During that time, 160 vehicles passed. More than 100 drivers were given a free sandwich card from McDonald’s by volunteers.
The checkpoint marked the 47th the Fargo Police Department has conducted since 2004 in an ongoing crackdown on drunken driving, resulting in 150 driving under the influence arrests.
