Construction to begin on Sanford YMCAConstruction will begin today on the new Sanford YMCA in south Fargo.
A groundbreaking ceremony will kick off the project at 10:30 a.m.
The $12 million fitness center is planned to serve 3,500 members at the 5225 31st Ave. location. The site will be northwest of the Urban Plains Center.
Construction is expected to take about a year, with the YMCA opening in Oct. 2011.
Twenty-five to 30 people will be employed by the facility, which is a partnership effort between Sanford Health and YMCA of Cass and Clay Counties.
