Weekend Watch: Ruth Ellingson photo reception
The world looks a little more colorful through the work of Ruth Ellingson. Whether it’s an image of the unique landscape at Joshua Tree National Park or the nostalgia of a drive-in restaurant sign, Ellingson’s photos carry a sense of color rarely seen outside of a Disney film. They’re not cartoony, but the vibrancy of colors manages to be familiar, yet unreal at the same time. The Fargo native achieves the unique perspective by hand-tinting black-and-white silver gelatin prints with photo retouch dyes. A collection of her time-intensive work will be on display this fall at the Rourke Art Gallery, 523 4th St. S., Moorhead. A reception for the show takes place at 2 p.m. Sunday.
