Head-on collision near Wahpeton injures 2Two people were transported to regional hospitals after sustaining unknown injuries in a head-on collision early Sunday near Wahpeton, N.D.
According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol:
Charles Mikkelson, 70, of Wahpeton, was driving northbound on state Highway 127 toward Wahpeton just before 7 a.m., when he apparently crossed the center line as an oncoming vehicle approached.
Mikkelson’s GMC Sierra collided head-on with a southbound Ford Escape, driven by Kathleen Lureen, 62, also of Wahpeton.
Both vehicles spun, coming to rest in the opposite directions they had been traveling.
Lureen was taken by LifeFlight to Sanford Hospital in Fargo, while Mikkelson was transported by ambulance to St. Francis Hospital in Breckenridge, Minn.
Information as to Lureen’s condition was not being made public, Sanford officials said.
St. Francis officials said Mikkelson was slated to be released from the hospital today.
The accident remains under investigation by the highway patrol.
