Portraits: Brittany Voulgarakis

Brittany Voulgarakis may not be making key plays for the Fargo North High School football team, but she’s still part of the team. The 17-year-old can be found on the sidelines of the football field as a student athletic training aide. “It’s a way of being part of the team without being a player,” Voulgarakis said. Voulgarakis is one of three aides who help the athletic trainers during football season. Her main job is to keep the team hydrated to keep players from cramping up. “We tape ankles, thumbs, wrists and everything else, and fill water bottles,” she said. “We get to see all of the gross injuries.” Voulgarakis plays basketball in the winter and soccer in the spring. She signed up to be an aide with a friend after her sophomore year of school to keep herself occupied in the fall. “We needed something else to do, and it’s a blast,” she said. “It’s a learning experience that people don’t dread doing.”
