Overdrafted TCF customer sues bank over fees

MINNEAPOLIS — A Minnesota woman is suing TCF Financial Corp., claiming the bank manipulated her debit card transactions to generate more overdraft fees.

Kimberly Pellett of Savage says TCF grouped her transactions together, then processed them from largest dollar amount to the smallest, which depleted her checking account faster. Pellett says she was charged $476 in overdraft fees in just six days.

The Star Tribune says Pellett is asking the court to order TCF to stop the practice of reordering transactions and reimburse its customers for the fees it collected through the practice.

TCF spokesman Jason Korstange says the bank is preparing a legal response. He declined to comment further.
