SWAT team called to Hawley, Minn., Friday nightA local SWAT team responded to a call Friday night in Hawley, Minn., that turned out to be a misunderstanding, Clay County Sheriff Bill Bergquist said. His department spent several hours on the scene.
“It was a big ordeal that ended up being nothing,” Bergquist said.
According to the dispatch log, at about 9:43 p.m. Friday, a caller from North Carolina said she had been told that a relative in Hawley had strangled his girlfriend to death. The caller said the man told his sister that “if he saw lights of a police car, he would end it all,” the dispatch log said. The caller said the man most likely was intoxicated and likely had guns in the house.
Law enforcement talked to both parties and they were fine. No one was arrested.
Bergquist said there could be charges filed against the caller who made the report.
