WF man hurt in head-on crash in I-29 work zoneA West Fargo man driving an SUV the wrong way on Interstate 29 in Fargo was hurt when he collided head-on with a van in a construction zone just before midnight Monday, the North Dakota Highway Patrol said.
Chip Young, 54, was taken by ambulance to Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, where he was listed in guarded condition Tuesday afternoon, hospital spokesman Darren Huber said.
The patrol was called at 11:52 p.m. about a vehicle traveling southbound in the northbound lane on
I-29. Troopers were responding when the head-on crash happened at 11:57 p.m. in the construction zone near 13th Avenue South, according to a news release.
Young was driving a 2007 GMC Envoy that struck a 1996 Nissan van driven by Ellitana Arot, 22, of Fargo.
Arot wasn’t injured, the patrol said.
Both vehicles sustained extensive damage, estimated at $12,000 to the SUV and $6,000 to the van.
Road conditions were wet at the time, the patrol said.
