Fargo police investigate flooded basement case

A Fargo homeowner who left town for the weekend returned home Sunday evening and found someone had turned on his outside faucet and left it running, flooding his basement and causing at least $5,000 in damage, police said.

The victim reported about 2 inches of standing water in the basement and substantial damage to the basement fixtures and furniture, Sgt. Mark Lykken said.

The water was coming from a garden hose near a window well, he said.

Police have no suspects in the incident, which was reported at 7:06 p.m. Sunday in the 1400 block of Fourth Street North.
