Bristol Palin to speak at Fargo event
The 19-year-old daughter of former Republican vice presidential hopeful Sarah Palin will speak at an Oct. 7 fundraiser for the Perry Center, a West Fargo home for unwed mothers.
“It’s really an abstinence message that she will be sharing is what we have been told,” said Pat Larson, administrator for the Perry Center.
An unmarried teenager, Bristol Palin made headlines during the 2008 presidential campaign after it became known that she was pregnant.
“We thought this would really give people an example of the young women we work with,” Larson said.
And Larson said that if it weren’t for Palin’s supportive family situation, she would have been a candidate for a place like the Perry Center “or a candidate for abortion. I mean, who knows.”
The Perry Center is a Christian ministry and was founded in 1986 by Darold and Pat Larson.
The advertised speaker’s fee for Palin is $15,000 to $30,000, according to Larson. But she said they worked with a
representative of Bristol Palin and are bringing her in for “much, much less.”
The event will be held at the Fargo Holiday Inn. Tickets are $15.
Palin, whose mother is also the former governor of Alaska, hit the speaking circuit in May when she made a stop at an Orlando conference for pregnancy help advocates.
According to the Single Source Speakers, Palin’s speaker’s bureau, she is also writing a book and recently appeared on ABC’s “The Secret Life of the American Teenager.”
And, if online reports are true, that won’t be her last foray into television.
According to E! Online, Palin has been cast for Season 11 of the popular ABC program “Dancing with the Stars.”
