Nash will succeed Maj. Gen. Larry Shellito, who is retiring at the end of October.
Nash is commander of the Guard's 34th Infantry "Red Bull" Division.
Nash was one of two finalists. The other was Brig. Gen. Joseph Kelly, director of the joint staff of the Minnesota National Guard.
Shellito announced in June that he would retire at the end of his seven-year term.
