Weekend Watch: Gary Allan and Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
Just because WE Fest is over doesn’t mean there’s isn’t any country music around here. California troubadour Gary Allan brings his mix of honky-tonk (“Nothin’ on But the Radio”) and heartbreak (“Man to Man”) to Dakota Magic Casino in Hankinson, N.D., at 8 tonight. Tickets are $40. (800) 325-6825. Meanwhile, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band can be credited both for making Nashville more pop-driven (they are still best known for the 1987 smash hit “Fishin’ in the Dark”) as well as leading resurgences of classic country (1972’s “Will the Circle Be Unbroken,” and subsequent volumes in 1989 and 2002). Expect a little bit of everything – including the band’s take on “Mr. Bojangles” – when it plays The Venue at The Hub, 2525 9th Ave. S., Fargo, on Friday night. Music starts at 9 p.m. with a $15 advance ticket, $20 on Friday. (701) 232-6767.
