Cass County taxpayers to pay expensive medical bills for inmateFARGO – Cass County commissioners learned today that county taxpayers are on the hook for expensive medical expenses for a jail inmate with a history of violent crimes.
Sheriff Paul Laney briefed the commission on the case in closed session because it involves confidential medical information.
Laney told reporters he could not identify the inmate, but said public safety would be at risk if the inmate were released.
Treatments for the “very serious condition” might not be available locally, and the inmate might have to be transported for care.
