Plane was doing acrobatics before Minn. crash

CLEARWATER, Minn. — Authorities have released the names of the two men killed when a small plane crashed in Wright County.

The Wright County Sheriff's Office says 32-year-old Brett Johnson, of Becker, was the pilot of the 1988 Christen Eagle II Bi-Plane that lost power and crashed in a wooded marsh in Clearwater Township.

He and his passenger 34-year-old Jeffrey Colbenson of Maple Lake were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Star-Tribune reports that Johnson was doing aerial acrobatics with the home-built biplane before it crashed in a swampy area about 100 yards from a house about 12:40 p.m. Sunday.
