Island Park pool sits empty on warm summer eveningI don’t mind paying my real estate taxes for golf courses, baseball fields, hockey rinks and other stuff that I never use. I do love to swim and am frustrated at how often Island Park pool sits empty. It’s a multimillion-dollar facility that is being badly managed.
A good example is yesterday, a beautiful summer evening. I went down there to participate in a lap swimming session only to discover they were shutting down and sending the lifeguards home. They couldn’t be bothered to stick around and watch the lap swimmers.
The Forum reported that the Fargo Parks Department was giving themselves raises. I think they should get pay cuts until they understand that taxpayers fund the facilities and (rightly) expect to be able to use them, not get told to go home because the head lifeguard has a hot date.
