Two men plead guilty to selling cocaine

Raphael Jameel Murphy and Tyrone Gregory Jones face years in prison after pleading guilty this week to federal drug charges in connection with dealing crack cocaine in Fargo.

Murphy and Jones both pleaded guilty to one count of selling, distributing or dispensing a controlled substance.

Murphy faces a sentence of between five and 40 years in prison, followed by five years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $2 million.

Jones faces a sentence of up to 20 years in prison, followed by five years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $1 million.

Both had several other drug-related counts against them, but those are expected to be dismissed at the sentencing hearings as part of plea agreements with federal prosecutors.

Between November 2007 and March 2009, Murphy distributed between 5 and 20 grams of a cocaine-based substance in Cass County, while Jones acknowledged he distributed up to 5 grams during the same time period.

Murphy’s sentencing is scheduled for October. Jones is expected to be sentenced in November.
