Alleged burglar caught stealing booze from Leonard golf courseLEONARD, N.D. – Authorities say a vehicle left running in the parking lot of the Leonard Country Club early today led a Cass County sheriff’s deputy to arrest its driver for allegedly stealing booze from a shed next to the clubhouse.
According to sheriff’s Capt. Rick Majerus:
Deputy Matt Giddings was on patrol just after 1 a.m. when he noticed a red Chevy Blazer running in the golf course’s parking lot with no one inside.
Giddings looked inside the SUV and saw 11 bottles of miscellaneous alcohol. He had dispatch run the vehicle’s license plate and then called the registered owner on his cell phone.
The deputy determined from the conversation that the owner was still in the area and convinced him to come out of the woods, where he apparently had hid when the patrol car pulled up, Majerus said.
Alan Scott Wagner, 19, of Casselton, was arrested on suspicion of burglary and possession of drug paraphernalia and taken to the Cass County Jail.
