Detroit Lakes RV park under new ownership
New owners Barb, Frank, Helen and Ken Foltz are enhancing the amenities and transforming the 88-acre park into more of a family-oriented location, said Dean Ellingson, general manager.
The 130-lot park has a marina with a tram to transport boats to the Pelican River, from which they can access Big and Little Detroit Lakes, Muskrat Lake and Lake Sallie.
The park’s planned changes include expanding the marina and increasing the tram’s capacity, Ellingson said.
There are about a dozen restaurants and bars accessible by boat from the park. That’s one of the features Ron Baranko, a lot owner, said he likes about it.
Baranko spends all summer, from May to Oct. 1, at the park.
Helen Foltz said the location first attracted the owners to the property.
“You get out here and you don’t realize you’re right next to town, but it doesn’t seem like you’re in town,” she said.
“It’s so peaceful here,” Barb Foltz added.
The park also boasts a new clubhouse with an indoor swimming pool and a nine-hole golf course.
The golf course is being updated with new greens and tee boxes. More of the natural habitat is also being incorporated into the course, Ellingson said.
“We tried to use the lay of the land better,” he said. “It really is a unique property with a lot of hills, ponds and a creek.”
The golf course is open to the public for $10 per round.
The former clubhouse, which sits on a hill overlooking the golf course, will be converted into a restaurant, bar and grill, Ellingson said.
Planned changes also include adding playgrounds and shelters for outdoor gatherings and planting about 100 trees, he said.
Ellingson stressed that the park also is an affordable option for owning a summer home in Detroit Lakes.
