11-year-old accused of stealing SUVOSAGE, Minn. – An 11-year-old boy is accused of stealing a Fargo man’s vehicle with three ATVs on a trailer while the man was tending to his children at the beach Wednesday.
The Becker County Sheriff’s Office received a report at 1:15 p.m. that a 2000 Ford Expedition pulling three ATVs on a trailer had been stolen in Osage.
According to Sheriff Tim Gordon:
The Fargo man had stopped at the Osage Lions’ Park beach to let his children go swimming.
He was listening to his radio with the key in the ignition when he left the vehicle to apply more sunscreen to his children. As he walked to the beach, he heard the SUV start and saw it leave the parking lot.
A former Osage resident who is familiar with the area tried to follow the SUV. She lost sight of it, but a short time later went to a nearby area where she thought it might be and found the vehicle damaged and stuck.
After interviewing witnesses, deputies apprehended the boy at his residence in Pine Point. Someone had given the boy a ride home from the Osage area, about eight miles away.
The boy was transferred to a shelter facility.
