Weekend Watch: David Dondero
Writers’ criticism can sting for years, but their praise often seems to go unheard. Consider the career of David Dondero. Just about every musical step taken by this indie-pop singer/songwriter has received rave reviews by critics, yet he’s still overlooked by bigger audiences. Check him out for yourself tonight at The Aquarium, 226 Broadway, but first give a listen to his new album, which comes out next Tuesday but is being streamed for free on www.npr.org. Cover is $5. If you like what you hear, you may also like the atmospheric duo known as Cotton Jones when they bring their hushed retro pop (think a Southern soul Mazzy Star) to the room next Monday. Cover is $6. Both shows are ID-only. (701) 235-5913.
