Third trial scheduled in Best Buy theft case

A third trial was set on Wednesday for one of the dozen suspects charged in a theft ring at Best Buy that allegedly stole $150,000 in goods from the electronics store’s Fargo location.

Though his attorney said in court that a plea is still under discussion, Chernel Magaga is scheduled for a jury trial Sept. 14.

Magaga, who has pleaded not guilty, joins two other defendants in scheduling a trial. Three have pleaded guilty, five have dates set to plead guilty and another’s trial or a change of plea hearing hasn’t been scheduled.

Police say two security guards at Best Buy allowed friends, many of whom had connections to local college athletics, to take goods out of the store. Magaga was the roommate of Adetimisola Ogundipe, one of the two guards. Ogundipe’s trial is set to begin Sept. 28.
