Schnepf: Next up: The Decision, starring Brett FavreThe Decision. Part II. Move over LeBron James, here comes Brett Favre with his own ESPN one-hour prime-time special.
Move over Jim Gray. John Madden is taking over as the moderator.
Madden: The answer to the question everybody wants to know Brett … what’s your decision.
Favre: Um, this is very tough, this fall … and by that I mean well after training camp is over … I am going to take my talents to south Mississippi and join the Oak Grove High School Warriors.
Madden: The Oak Grove Warriors. That was the conclusion you woke up with this morning.
Favre: That is the conclusion I woke up with this morning.
Favre: Um … like I said before …. this is going to give me the best opportunity to win championships for multiple years. Um … not only to win five days in a row and three days in a row. I want to be able to be a champion. I’m looking forward to it. I can’t say it was always in my plans. It was hard to turn down. You add me with those acne-faced teenagers … we are going to be a really great team.
Madden: How do you explain this to the people in Minneapolis?
Favre: Huh …. It’s heartfelt for me. It’s hard to explain but at the same time, in the one year that I gave to that franchise and that city, it was everything. And those 50,000-plus fans that came out every night we played and they saw me grow from a 39-year-old kid to a 40-year-old man, I never wanted to leave Minneapolis. My heart will always be around that area. But I also felt this is the greatest challenge for me to move on.
Madden: How did you come to this decision.
Favre: Actually, while I was sitting at the ESPYS the other night. I figured if Steve Carell can announce he is taking his appetite to the Outback Steakhouse, my announcement wouldn’t seem too off-the-wall.
Madden: Oh, it’s off-the-wall. Geezo beezo Brett. What are you thinking? Don’t you want another shot at the Super Bowl?
Favre: Like I said before Johnny boy, I figured the best shot I have at a championship is at the high school level. That’s my new goal … that and have Larry King interview me at my estate in Hattiesburg. You saw that old coot shoot hoops with LeBron. I want him to help me weedwhack.
Madden: So that’s it … Steve Carell influenced your decision.
Favre: Most definitely. And did you see what he answered when he was asked what his favorite color is … purple. Probably Viking purple.
Madden: So what is your favorite color?
Favre: I don’t know. I haven’t made that decision yet.
Madden: So the Oak Grove Warriors. That’s your final decision?
Favre: Yes, it is. …. Wait a minute, maybe. …. Gosh, I’m not sure.
Madden: There you have it folks. Not only does it sound like the makings for another Sears commercial, but it sounds like the makings for … The Decision, Part III. Stay tuned.
