Fargo’s Schultz cards 63, moves into tie for 7th in Nationwide event

CINCINNATI – Fargo’s Dave Schultz carded a 63 to move into a tie for seventh place in the Nationwide Tour’s Chiquita Classic at TPC River Bend on Saturday. Schultz’s 63 was one shot off the course record, which was matched by tourney leader Tommy Gainey on Saturday.

Schultz is eight shots off the lead.

Gainey also matched the tour’s 54-hole record of 24-under par, and will take a four-shot lead into the final round on Sunday.

After opening with rounds of 64 and 66, Gainey shot a 10-under 62 to match Arjun Atwal’s record set during the 2008 Chattanooga Classic.

Colt Knost is alone in second at 20 under, Justin Smith is at 18 under and Peter Tomasulo, Joe Affrunti and Chris Kirk are another stroke back.

Gainey is trying to become the first two-time winner on the Nationwide Tour this season. He won the Melwood Prince George’s County Open for his first career victory last month.
