Day off from run nets man $500 prize

Jason Medders of Fargo skipped his early morning run Thursday and is now $500 richer because of it.

Medders found The Forum’s Treasure Token hidden on a railing near the railroad tracks by the Beyond Running store downtown sometime before 7:30 a.m., he said.

“I typically get up early in the mornings and go for a run, spend a little time on the treadmill. I thought this morning I would try to find the token instead,” he said. “That worked out well for me, so I’m so glad that I did.”

The part of the clue that tipped him off was the note to “make sure you have comfy shoes,” he said.

Medders said he saw others out searching for the token. It was pretty well hidden, but he was being thorough, he said.

Medders has tried finding the token for the past couple of years, he said, adding that it was exciting to find it this year.

This is The Forum’s fourth annual Treasure Token hunt. A token is hidden downtown along the Street Fair route each day of the three-day event.

Clues to its whereabouts are in The Forum newspaper each day. The prize for finding it is $500.

Medders said he may use part of the money to buy a new pair of running shoes.

Medders might be familiar to readers. He and his wife, Kelli, are the parents of Callie, the sole survivor of quadruplets born in 2007. Jason and Kelli Medders also are parents to Wyatt, 5, and Sadie, who was born April 14.
