Fargo has shot at Weather Channel partySteve Waldner may have Fargo’s extreme weather to thank for a summer beach party complete with sand and palm trees.
Waldner is among three national finalists in The Weather Channel’s “Ultimate Summer Beach Party” video contest.
Waldner finds out Sunday on live TV if his Fox Run neighborhood will play host on July 25 to a nationally televised block party complete with tiki bar, climbing wall, sand, pool and band.
The contest asked entrants to explain why their neighborhood deserved a beach party in less than a minute.
Waldner’s video shows the 44-year-old in front of his south Fargo home dressed in stocking cap, swim trunks, mittens and scuba gear and pokes fun at the area’s propensity to flooding and frigid winters.
His wife, Candyce, worked as stage hand to throw water and ice cubes at Waldner.
A Weather Channel panel selected his video from 150 other entrants. The two other finalists are in Kent, Ohio, and Terre Haute, Ind., but it’s the channel’s familiarity with Fargo that Waldner thinks won him a shot at the party.
“They’re pretty familiar with us from the floods and harsh weather,” he said.
