Wadena board decides where to hold classes

The Wadena-Deer Creek (Minn.) School Board decided Monday where classes will be held this fall after the high school was heavily damaged by a June 17 tornado.

Grades 9 through 12 will meet at the Wadena campus of Minnesota State Community and Technical College, said board Chairwoman Ann Pate.

Seventh- and eighth-graders will be moved to Deer Creek School, about eight miles southwest of Wadena.

Preschool will relocate to St. Ann’s Catholic School to free up some space at the elementary building, Pate said.

The district is still waiting to get a final insurance assessment for the building, but Pate said it’s likely an 80 to 85 percent loss.
