Women Voters to collect signatures for measureThe North Dakota League of Women Voters will be collecting signatures in the coming weeks for a constitutional amendment that would create an independent legislative redistricting commission in North Dakota.
Volunteers are canvassing communities for signatures, and a booth to inform people about the amendment and to collect signatures is set up at the Red River Valley Fair.
The League needs 26,000 signatures by Aug. 4 to have a measure for the amendment placed on the ballot this fall.
Advocates of the amendment say an independent commission would be less biased by the political affiliation of voters when drawing district lines.
