HCSCC seeks memories of Hjemkomst shipThe Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County is seeking memories from the public of the building and sailing of the Viking ship Hjemkomst.
July 17 is the 30th anniversary of the removal of the ship from the warehouse in Hawley, Minn. The public is invited to an open house at the Hawley Senior Center from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 17 and from 11 a.m. to
2 p.m. July 18 where filmmakers Tony Tilton and Eli Akira Kaufman will video-record stories and talk with people who remember the building and sailing of the ship.
People are encouraged to bring photos, film footage and memorabilia to help share their stories.
The HCSCC will also celebrate Hawley Days at the Hjemkomst Center in Moorhead July 17 and 18. Hawley-area residents holding a coupon to be printed in the Hawley Herald this month will be admitted to the Viking Village Festival two for the price of one.
