Forum editorial: Keep holiday safe by avoiding dumb behavior

It’s the start of a long July Fourth weekend, which means be careful on the roadways.

Starting today, traffic to the Minnesota lakes country or west to the North Dakota Badlands will be heavy. Families will be anticipating a three-day holiday outing. Don’t mess it up.

It’s never too much to stress the stupidity of drinking and driving. The tragic statistics don’t lie. Drink and drive and the risk, not only of arrest but also of fatal accidents goes up. Don’t put yourself, your family and others on the road in danger.

Also in the area of avoiding dumb behavior: fireworks. The danger they present when misused is real. Serious injuries occur every July Fourth because children or irresponsible adults make mistakes with fireworks. Don’t do it.

Keep the holiday safe. Make a good memory, not a sad one.
