Dakotas lawmakers remember ByrdBISMARCK — Lawmakers in the Dakotas say Sen. Robert Byrd of West Virginia will be missed.
The 92-year-old Democrat died Monday at a Virginia hospital, after years of failing health.
North Dakota Democratic Sen. Byron Dorgan says Byrd was a "legendary" senator. Fellow North Dakota Democrat Kent Conrad says Byrd had "an encyclopedic knowledge" of Senate procedure, and his knowledge and spirit will be missed.
South Dakota Democratic Sen. Tim Johnson says he will always value the time he spent with Byrd on the Senate Appropriations Committee. He says Byrd's death marks the end of an era.
