New ND Medicaid claims system delayed again

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota's new computer system for processing Medicaid claims is being delayed again.

An executive for the company that's developing the system told North Dakota lawmakers on Tuesday that the project won't be finished until June 2012.

The system was first expected to be running in July 2009. Last year, lawmakers were told it would be finished by April 2011.

The project is being developed by Affiliated Computer Services. Company official Tom Burlin told lawmakers there won't be any further delays.

Medicaid is a medical assistance program for the poor. The state is replacing an old computer system that processes Medicaid bills. Officials say the new system will reduce backlogs in payments to medical providers.

The system processes about 38,000 claims a week.
