ND farmers not spending as much on themselvesGRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) - A new report says North Dakota farmers spent a little less on themselves last year.
The North Dakota State University Extension Service report looked at 251 farms enrolled in the North Dakota Farm Business Management Education Program. Operators of the farms kept detailed living expense records throughout the year.
Average household expenditures for the 251 farms in 2009 were $57,355, $50 less than in 2008.
NDSU farm management specialist Andy Swenson says the report's findings aren't surprising. He says family living expenditures rose in 2007 and 2008, when farm income was strong. Last year, when farm income fell, expenditures leveled off.
