Mitt Romney to highlight NDGOP fundraiser in MapletonFormer presidential candidate and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney will be the featured guest of the North Dakota Republican Party at a fundraising event next week near Mapleton, N.D.
The June 22 gathering, at former Sen. Mark Andrews' farm, is aimed at GOP supporters, with contributions going to aid the party in its efforts to elect Republicans in November. The cost of the event is $1,000 per couple.
“We have asked Governor Romney to speak to the issues of the day in his characteristic optimistic and pragmatic style,” GOP Chairman Gary Emineth wrote in an e-mail newsletter sent Monday to supporters. “He is a proven leader and a voice which carries practical wisdom and inspiration with conviction and determination.”
Republican candidates for state and federal office – including Senate candidate Gov. John Hoeven and House candidate Rick Berg – were invited to attend as “honorary guests.”
But it won’t be an official campaign stop. The newsletter included the caveat that Hoeven and Berg “are not soliciting contributions for this event, and they are appearing only as featured guests.”
Romney is among several nationally prominent Republican to show support for North Dakota GOP candidates this election year – another indicator of state and national Republicans’ optimism for November.
