Murder suspect pleads not guilty

A man accused in a fatal bar shooting in Wyndmere, N.D., pleaded not guilty Thursday to murder and attempted murder.

Steven Rowland, 46, of Wyndmere, en-tered pleas in a preliminary hearing in Richland County District Court, said Ronald McBeth, assistant state’s attorney in Richland County.

Authorities say Rowland shot and killed a fellow bar patron, Gordon Vosberg, following a fight at closing time on St. Patrick’s Day at the Four Corners Motel & Lounge in Wyndmere.

Rowland allegedly shot Vosberg in the chest with a shotgun, according to court records. He’s being held in the Richland County Jail on $1.2 million bail.

The bar’s owner, Robert Faber Jr., is being sued by Rowland for about $17,000 he claims is still owed after Rowland’s plans to buy the bar fell through last year. Faber was in the bar at the time of the shooting.

The next court hearing is set for July 20. A trial date or plea date could be set at that time if crime-scene evidence being processed is done by then, McBeth said.

If the forensic testing is not done, another scheduling hearing would be set.
