Minneapolis cop shot in 2003 dies in apparent suicideMINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Authorities say a Minneapolis police officer who was shot while undercover in 2003 and later won a $4.5 million settlement from the city has apparently committed suicide.
Mendota Heights Police Chief Mike Aschenbrener says authorities got a call around 12:15 p.m. Monday from the wife of 38-year-old Duy Ngo, reporting an apparent suicide.
Aschenbrener says authorities are still on the scene and he didn't have any other details.
Ngo was undercover and on gang surveillance on Feb. 25, 2003, when he was shot by a suspect. He radioed for help, but an officer who responded jumped out of his cruiser and almost immediately began firing at Ngo, hitting him six times.
Ngo required multiple surgeries and was put on desk duty because of his injuries.
