Bismarck/Mandan march honors fallen soldiersBISMARCK – North Dakota National Guard soldiers killed in the global war on terror were remembered during a march in the Bismarck-Mandan area.
The Guard says Sunday’s Memorial March also honored all military members who have served or are currently serving.
The 9-mile march began at 9:38 a.m. at the Global War on Terrorism Memorial at the Guard’s Fraine Barracks headquarters in west Bismarck and finished at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery south of Mandan.
The date and start time were in memory of the exact time that two members of the 188th Air Defense Artillery Security Forces – Sgt. Travis Van Zoest and Spc. Curtis Mehrer – were killed in Afghanistan on June 6, 2006.
