Best Buy suspect pleads not guilty to thefts

One of the dozen men who face felony charges in connection with an alleged theft ring at Best Buy in Fargo pleaded not guilty Thursday in Cass County District Court.

Chernel Magaga, 19, told police he took merchandise out of the store on behalf of both security guards who are accused of allowing the thefts, including an Xbox and a laptop computer.

Magaga, who lived with one of the two store guards, is charged with a Class C felony count of theft of property. He pleaded not guilty Thursday and is due back in court on July 28.

Police believe the alleged theft ring took more than $150,000 in goods from Best Buy between September and February.
