Wilton, N.D., man sentenced in bald eagle killingA Wilton man convicted in federal court in February of illegally killing and keeping a bald eagle has been sentenced to prison.
Acting U.S. Attorney Lynn Jordheim says 30-year-old Jesse Marchus was sentenced to serve a total of eight years and four months in prison on charges of unlawful taking of a bald eagle and possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon.
Authorities say that in May 2009 they seized nine firearms, more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition and a pair of bald eagle feet from a cabin believed to belong to Marchus.
Marchus earlier had been convicted of burglary, possession of drug paraphernalia and being a felon in possession of a firearm, so he was not allowed to have guns.
