Man’s guilty plea first in Best Buy theft case

A man charged in connection with a theft ring at Fargo’s Best Buy has pleaded guilty in Cass County District Court to one count of theft.

Gregory Reid Jr. entered the plea Tuesday and was sentenced to one year, with all of the time suspended for 18 months.

Reid will be on supervised probation for 18 months and he was ordered to do 50 hours of community service.

If Reid successfully completes his probation, his conviction will be recorded as a misdemeanor, said Assistant Cass County State’s Attorney Tracy Peters.

Peters said Reid’s involvement in a theft ring at Best Buy was at the lower end of the scale compared to that of others charged.

Reid’s case is the first to be resolved out of approximately a dozen.

During sentencing, Reid apologized and expressed remorse for his actions, Peters said.

Police say about $150,000 in electronics were taken from Best Buy from September to February.
