Portraits: Daryl Best
Best was a pipe fitter and worked in damage control during his tour. “It was a million dollars of fun, but I wouldn’t do it again for a million dollars,” Best says with a grin.
He retired after a 40-year career as a pipe fitter working for different contractors in the area. He has been active in the VFW for the past 17 years, and in addition to his color guard duties, he has been both the past post and state commander. Best says it’s an honor to be a part of the color guard on Memorial Day to pay tribute and remember the good friends who have gone. The West Fargo program begins with a flag-raising ceremony at 11 a.m.
