Arsonist torches US flag outside Minn. vet's homeMINNEAPOLIS — An arsonist set fire to an American flag hanging outside the Minneapolis duplex where a U.S. Marine veteran lives.
The arson reduced the flag to ashes but the home was spared.
Duplex resident Elizabeth Hawley says she found the ashes Thursday morning. She calls the act "very disturbing."
She says her husband was a Marine. She says he's keeping his feelings reserved but she knows he's extremely upset.
Hawley doesn't believe her family was targeted. She tells the Star Tribune she thinks it was a random act of vandalism.
Police Sgt. Bill Palmer says it's still a serious matter. He says it's one thing to burn a flag in symbolic protest but it's another matter to torch a flag attached to a home where six people live.
Police are looking for suspects.
