Concordia’s Kay places second at nationalsBEREA, Ohio – Concordia senior Leah Kay set a school record in the women’s heptathlon Friday as she took second place in that event at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track Championships.
Kay finished with 4,812 points. She also set a school record in the javelin with a toss of 146 feet, 8 inches.
Kay’s second-place finish was the highest finish for a Concordia athlete at a national outdoor meet since 1998 when Laura Utke was runner-up in the hammer throw.
Former Concordia star Angie Pfeiffer was second in the 400 meters at the 2006 NCAA indoor meet.
Nicole Plante previously held the school heptathlon record, scoring 4,640 points in 2005. Plante formerly held the javelin mark with a toss of 144-5 in 2005.
A six-time All-American, Kay will cap her career today, competing in the open high jump.
