Fourth Honor Flight to Washington slatedBISMARCK – Local World War II veterans will be flown free of charge to Washington, D.C., on Sept. 10 by Roughrider Honor Flight to visit the World War II memorial.
The Honor Flight program does not receive public funding and relies on private donations. The cost of each trip is an estimated $175,000.
The RRHF group has escorted almost 300 servicemen and women to Washington. Eight hundred other veterans have traveled on honor flights originating in Fargo and Grand Forks. The Bismarck organization is now the only active group serving North Dakota veterans.
The volunteer-led group estimates that at least one more trip will be necessary to accommodate the remaining applicants.
Contributions to the program are tax deductible and can be sent to P.O. Box 220, Bismarck, ND, 58502.
Applications for future flights are available at www.rrhonorflight.com or by calling (701) 373-5416.
