National Guard family amendment passesWASHINGTON – The U.S. House has approved an amendment offered by Rep. Earl Pomeroy, D-N.D., that will extend the Joint Family Support Assistance Program, an initiative that provides support to the families of National Guard and Reserve soldiers deployed overseas.
The program works by creating a one-stop shop that ensures support programs and resources are available to communities in their region, according to a news release from Pomeroy’s office. The centers then coordinate help with financial issues and many other services.
The amendment, which was added to the Defense Authorization Act, will make the program permanent.
