Goldenberg earns re-electionA few years ago I was on a local school board. What surprised me was that teachers were amazed to see me in their schools. I assumed that if a board member truly wanted to know what was happening in our schools, they would go to where the education takes place: our schools. Upon visiting with teachers, I found that they were very interested in sharing their thoughts regarding education and what they were doing. They felt that they had a voice. That same voice for teachers and students can be found in one of this year’s candidates: Dinah Goldenberg.
This year I have had the privilege to work with Goldenberg, who was the Fargo School Board liaison to Kennedy Elementary. She asked at a staff meeting to please be invited to come to things that we were doing and that she would not mind being put to work.
I did just that. Besides being a guest reader to my class, Goldenberg bagged dry beans, worked at the Salvation Army Community Center and even helped us at the Family Store. Over the holidays, she surprised my class with cookies as yet another thoughtful gesture. Dinah said what she meant, and then she followed through.
I fully support Dinah Goldenberg’s bid for re-election. Any person who says that she is interested in schools and wants to be involved provides a voice for everyone. Goldenberg is easily approached and willing to listen to all sides of any situation. We need thoughtful, reflective board members who are going to do as they say.
