Guard veteran to ride across North Dakota

North Dakota National Guard veteran Dan Olson of Bismarck is planning to bicycle across North Dakota this week to raise funds and bring awareness to the North Dakota National Guard Courage Carries On program, with the goal of bringing awareness to the issues of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and suicide prevention.

Olson is also making the trek from Beach to Fargo in honor of his friend and fellow veteran SSgt. Joel Biel, who committed suicide after returning from a second North Dakota National Guard deployment to Iraq in 2007.

Receptions and fundraisers are planned along the route, which will end in Fargo on Memorial Day. His journey will end with his participation in the Memorial Day ceremony planned at 11 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial Bridge.
