Fargo Marathon: 5K runners enjoy new challenge
More than 6,000 participated in the 3.1-mile race, which for the first time was held the evening before the 10K, half marathon and full marathon. Runners seemed to like the change.
Todd Heinrich of Walcott, N.D., and his 11-year-old daughter, Emily, ran in their fourth Fargo 5K Friday.
“I really like it because in other years it’s gotten really congested” with the other races, he said.
Holding the race on a separate day also gave runners a chance to try the Go Far Challenge, open to anyone who participates in the 5K as well as one of today’s events.
Rick Foley of Virginia Beach, Va., will run a full marathon today, but joined three generations and 17 members of his family for the 5K.
“When I saw the challenge, I thought I’d try to talk them into the 5K,” he said.
